Video Card Help

Post by Seary on Fri Nov 28, 2008 7:52 am

I finally bought a new computer today!! <3 Specs: Phenom X4 9500 Quad-Core Processing Unit ~2.2 GHZ, 6GB DDRRAM, 640GB Hard Drive, 22' inch LCD 1680 x 1050 factory-set resolution monitor, and Vista Home Premium.

I realized however that its video card is on the low end of the spectrum, so I thought maybe Emmet or Earle or Bobby, or perhaps another PC guy could give me some help. Im willing to spend up to $300 on it to ensure I wont have to upgrade for a LONG time. Im not looking for something that could play Crysis on max, but something that would be able to run Dawn of War or perhaps DIII/SCII when they come out. Thanks!!

^Thats the one i have in the gaming rig. Very reliable.

^This one is hella more expensive, and can obviously play Crysis on probably High settings, but its cheaper than $300.

But if you want more bang for yer buck, go with the first one. Plus, its better than Bobby's Smile

*EDIT*
Did you custom build this, or did you order this through a manufacturer?

Well ive been doing more research on this baby before I set it up, and according to the manufacturing label, it contains an additional PCIEx16 slot for a video card. Now this leaves me thinking, does that mean I have to hunt down a PCIEx16 video card or will one that is a PCIEx16 2.0 work on it as well?

I do believe it means you have to hunt down a PCI Expressx16 video card.
I'm pretty sure PCIEx16 2.0 is for the higher end cards, so to speak.

But it shouldn't matter all too much, as you can still get some great quality PCIEx16 cards that will fit yer need.

^Those are PCIEx16 cards that are listed from highest to lowest prices, so you can see the better cards first.
Now, they certainly aren't EVGA type cards, but they are still pretty good.

*EDIT*

I think PCIEx16 are the older model slots on mobo's these days. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

Ive looked around for almost 3 hours now and ive decided that the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS is my best bet. A shame the 8800 GTX is still around 400, considering there are much better cards out for 2.0x16 for alot less :/ Its on sale for 69.99 so I might as well grab it now.

I've got the 8600 GTS. I like it. I'm gonna upgrade soon though.
